Part of the Argentina Travel Guide

← Back to Argentina

Iguazú Falls sits on the border between Argentina and Brazil, and it is far larger than photographs manage to convey. Hundreds of individual falls stretch across nearly three kilometers of jungle, and they culminate at the Devil's Throat, where the water drops into a canyon loud enough that you feel it before you reach the viewing platform.

The two sides are not interchangeable. Argentina holds roughly 80 percent of the falls and puts you inside them, with walkways along the upper and lower circuits and a train out to the Devil's Throat. That side needs a full day. The Brazil side gives you the panorama, the whole system seen at once, and takes about half a day.

Our recommendation is to see both and in either order. Because the Argentina side is more extensive, we recommend staying in Puerto Iguazu in Argentina and spending more time transiting to Brazil. The crossing is straightforward, and the two together make a much better trip than either one alone.
